With our unique cement tile designs, we unite modern artistry with several centuries of traditional hand-craftsmanship and technique.
As Founder & Creative Director of Hacienda Design Studio, LLC, Dana Berkowitz brings a (mostly) modern take on a classic tradition.
With degrees in English and French from Binghamton University, Dana began her career in the world of design at Pierre Frey, Inc. in NYC. Having developed a passion for beautifully designed spaces and luxurious home furnishings, she spent the next decade working at Waterworks in the heart of the NY Design District.
Throughout these years, Dana traveled the world extensively, inspired and fulfilled by different cultures and the rich beauty of foreign lands. In 2008, she moved to Mérida, the capital city of Yucatan, Mexico, to restore a 170 year-old carriage house whose only salvageable remains were the cement tile floors.
When the restoration was complete and the floors were polished to their original glory, Dana became enamored with this gorgeous, customizable, affordable and sustainable material. Determined to expose cement tile to a wider audience, she set forth to design her own modern collection. The Company is named in tribute to the Mexican estates adorned with cement tile that inspired it all.
